This is an autumn love story of the best kind. Peigi has settled in her mind that she is not going to find someone whom she will find a lasting love but she is also terribly tied down to looking after two spoilt children who are her sister's grandchildren. The mother and grandmother are both dead and the father is either too desperate or finds it very convenient to just totally dump the responsibility on Peigi and depart for his high powered consultancy work.

Peigi is wondering and planning how she can escape from this prison of her own making and she is planning to stage her death and disappearance (I initially thought she was writing a novel!) and during one of her visits to her favourite cafe she meets up with Kevin who just refuses to let her go.

Kevin is a retired cop, who has set up his own security consultancy business though you see hardly any business once he arrives on the scene and he very neatly captures Peigi's heart and mind completely.

The usual story of love and romance with its ups and downs, and much more variants and differences when each of you has baggage by the ton, and histories by the dozen to be either unraveled or kept tightly hidden. It was these unravel lings that added so much spice to the drama.

Lovely to find a very late second chance at love so successful.

About the Author
Pierce Purcell was born in 1939 in Wexford, Ireland, and grew up in Wicklow Town, a seaside resort south of Dublin. After graduating from University College Dublin in 1962, he worked as a secondary teacher in Clonmel, Co. Tipperary until his retirement in 2000. He and his wife Maureen, a well known local artist who helped to design the cover of this book, have four adult children and eight grandchildren, at the last count. In addition to teaching, Pierce spent many years as a part-time official in the secondary teachers' trade union, and is at present the General Secretary of the German Teachers' Association of Ireland. In 2006 he taught English for a semester in the University for Nationalities in Guiyang, China. He is a former member of the Senate of the National University of Ireland. Among his many interests are classical music, fast cars, long-distance running and foreign travel. In this, Pierce's first novel, the reader is furnished with a graphic picture of certain aspects of life in Ireland from the early 1960s up to the present day, while following the careers of both a ruthless criminal and an apparently harmless old pensioner.

A great crime novel but it is in English not German !!

This is really a very fast and exciting crime book where most of the events happen around Wicklow and Dublin but also in Germany also. By the way it is not in German !! It is in English - a very well constructed book indeed.

A Sequel Please!

Right from the beginning it grabs your attention with the colorful characters and descriptions. Easily navigated as it flows from one character to the next. It reads with a dark humor as i found myself delighted and aghast at the same time! Love the inclusion of the antique autos, the clergy, and academia. I would love a sequel to see what Mr. Larry Porter is up to in his retirement! Have not enjoyed a novel this much in several years. I would definitely recommend!

A Terrific Read

Flirting with Trouble is a wonderful new book written by Sita Bhaskar. The book starts with an engaging novella about a family that overcomes poverty with determination and family support, eventually their daughter, Subhadra, moves to California because her husband has been accepted to a doctorate program. Her family was relieved because Subhadra was a firebrand and had already been in jail for protesting. It was a bad time in India because there was a governmental emergency that was taking all civil rights away and protestors were shown no mercy. Later you meet Subhadra's son Abhimanyu at a crossroads in his life where he too was flirting with trouble, this time by being suspended from his college for a semester because he was caught with drugs. His parents respond to the crisis by sending him "home" to his grandparents. Of course that is really a challenge for their son, who is completely American, but also an opportunity for him to learn about his extended family and culture. Much to his surprise he learned more that he expected! As the book continues, there is an excellent collection of short stories with a variety of characters and situations. Each story is so well written you don't want them to end! With a touch of humor and a great deal of wisdom Sita Bhaskar entertains and informs us about how modern day Indians navigate between cultures.

Ms. Bhaskar warmly articulates the cultural leap that migrants make in the move across oceans and generations. Her extraordinary eye captures the time and milieu and serves it up with affection and wit.
These are not tales of Homeric heroes or hideous villains nor epic quests or violent death. These are stories about regular folks caught up in very relatable problems, told with pragmatic humor and mischief. Each story, carefully interwoven with humorous insight, brings a fresh take on vast cultural juxtapositions brought on by the shrinking world.

Worthwhile, Pleasurable Read!

What an enjoyable reading experience!
I loved learning so much about other cultures in a book written by a friend from one of my book clubs, who is also a former coworker.
Quality writing and keen insight into human character, along with some moments of humor and with variety of story lines made for a worthwhile, pleasurable read.
