Quick, Fulfilling Read

I received Darryl Sollerh's novella yesterday in the mail (as part of the GoodReads giveaway program), and I wasn't able to put it down once I picked it up. Granted, it's only 80 pages, but I would attribute the readability more to the pace and style of the story than its short length.

This book is an action-packed adventure; when the plot isn't hurtling forward to the conclusion through direct narration, the reader is treated to dialogue.

This isn't to say that Sollerh's work is devoid of important thematic content; to the contrary, Trancer ends beautifully. It just isn't a very dense, heavy-handed work.

Great Book!

I was extremely excited to start reading it. Super adventure. All of Darryl's books are very creative, thought provoking, vivid detailed! Fast paced, quite the thriller! Great fun to read!! The characters are well developed. The plot moves right along and is mostly believable. I have recommended this writer to others and they were not disappointed either.

About the Author
Sophia Hillan, former Assistant Director of Queen's University Belfast's Institute of Irish Studies, has published and lectured widely on Irish literature of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. She is also a writer of fiction, beginning under the encouragement of Irish Literary Editor David Marcus (who Fintan O'Toole described as "the single most important literary editor of the latter half of the twentieth century"), who awarded her a prize at Listowel Writer's Week in 1980, publishing her early work first in New Irish Writing, and later in The Faber Book of Best New Irish Short Stories, 2004-5, and then urging her to write the novel which became The Friday Tree. As its first reader, he described her writing as "an absolute beauty" adding "Brigid and Francis will captivate the reader... I feel honoured to have been allowed to see the coming of an exciting novel." Sophia Hillan was runner-up to John Arden in the Royal Society of Literature's first V.S. Pritchett Memorial Award Competition (1999) and her short story, Roses, was featured as part of BBC Radio 4's Defining Moments series. Her most recent work (non-fiction) is May, Lou and Cass: Jane Austen's Nieces in Ireland. (Belfast: Blackstaff Press, 2011).

About the Author
Murth J. Hogan was born in Wexford, Ireland, in March 1952. He was educated in The Christian Brothers primary and, secondary schools. He left school at fifteen and, served a five year apprenticeship in carpentry. He worked in the construction industry for a further six years after completing this apprenticeship. During that time he completed a four year course in Interior Design and Construction. He started his own design practice in 1981. The business was successful for a number of years but, the recession of the mid eighties, virtually wiped out the need for those professional services. In September 1986 he emigrated to Canada. He lived in Toronto for three years and, St. Catherines close to Niagara Falls, for three and a half years. It was during this time he developed his interest in writing. He wrote a number of stories in screenplay format. He returned to Ireland in December 1992 and, once again, worked in the construction industry. In January 1995 he began his career as a staff supervisor for a voluntary organisation in his ome town of Wexford in the famously sunny south east corner of Ireland. He still works for this organisation to this day. In 2011 he decided, once again, to work on his ideas, only this time to write them as books. His first book titled The Attic, a tense crime thriller, was published in December 2013. Shortly after this, in late January 2014, he suffered a near fatal heart attack. He is now fit and well once again and, Is very pleased to be able to publish his second novel.

Truly a great book to read!

The plot of the story was good but one has to carefully read every detail written in this book to have a clear understanding of what the author is trying to say.

It may seem to be a bit confusing at first most especially that the story has two settings - the first one is a fantasy story about the Great Lord that happened in the ancient times and the second one is the story about Blake and Jessica, the son and daughter of two directors of a major business empire that talks about their life at the present.

The Great Lord and Blake and Jessica may live in different times but they also have different characters.

The Great Lord is the antagonist in the story during the ancient times wherein he abuses the power he has over all things while Blake and Jessica from the present time both have a lot of great concern towards the environment.

A book that's definitely full of surprises and excitement that will leave you asking for more.

The way the story was told is definitely like a comparison of what happened during the ancient times and the modern time. They may have happened in two different settings but they have one common thing and that is about a very powerful, influential empire that someone wants to destroy.
